With Colonel G Cullmann’s vision of a new colony after the Civil War, the first 5 families moved to the area now called Cullman in April of 1873. Each family was given a small parcel of land where they built log homes and cleared land for farming. Before the end of 1873, the settlement had its first industry a saw mill.
Today Cullman is the home of 5 industrial parks, with 125 industrial companies located in these areas and scattered around the county. Cullman is located very conveniently along I-65 and is centrally located just 45 minutes north of Birmingham and 45 minutes south of Huntsville, this has helped our area to attract industry.
Cullman has an excellent city and county system; we are blessed with an excellent school system that includes public, private and secondary education. All of these schools offer academic benefits as well as athletic activities. There are over 250 churches are in Cullman County. The governments of this community work together for the betterment of its citizens to grow a community that we are all proud to call “home”. The law enforcements systems are always visible and do an excellent job.
Cullman City and County Park systems are among some of the best in the country. The latest addition was the Aquatic Center. This facility offers a full range of activities like and indoor pool, outdoor pool, exercise equipment, indoor track and more.
With a long list of eating choices, Cullman has a varied choice and it is growing. There is also a farmers market called “Festhalle” that has local farmers produce during the growing season.
