Smith Lake

The best kept secret in Alabama is Smith Lake!  Located here in Cullman County, and Winston and Walker Counties, it covers 21,200 acres and over 500 miles of shoreline.  The water depth goes to 300’ and deeper!  There is an array of fish like bass, bream, crappie, largemouth bass, spotted bass and one of the favorites is striped bass fishing! The current lake record is 45 pounds!  Five world records for spotted bass have been set in Smith Lake and one state record for striped bass.

There are several camping sites on Smith Lake.   Smith Lake Park is located 7 miles off I-65 and is a top rated recreational area in Alabama.  Smith Lake Park has tent sites, RV sites, pool and water slides, lake swimming, picnic sites and shelters.  Smith Lake Park also offers special events throughout the year.  Clear Creek , Corinth, and Houston campgrounds in Bankhead National Forrest are located on Smith Lake.

On Smith Lake the water is very clean for swimming.  The water quality is ranked third cleanest in the US!  With an easy commute for I65, Smith Lake has become a very popular place to live or to have a second home.
